A major UK initiative to help detect missing children is being backed by East Midlands MEPs Emma McClarkin and Andrew Lewer MBE, who said it could help protect the 1 million youngsters who go missing across Europe each year.

Andrew completed the third of his Referendum Roadshow events last Friday in Ravenhead, Nottighamshire.  The event recieved wide coverage in the run-up to it in local newspapers and radio, includng Smooth FM.  

Andrew said, 

"As luck would have it I came straight to Ravenshead from the BBC Nottingham studios where I had just filmed a section of the East Midlands edition of the Sunday Politics Show that included a section on our relationship with the EU, which meant the subject was very much on my mind as I prepared to talk to Nottinghamshire residents."

East Midlands MEP Andrew Lewer MBE is calling on the Government to include structural development funds in the EU renegotiation package.

The multi-billion Euro funds - aimed at boosting economic growth, development and cooperation between member states - account for around a third of EU spending.

"We are the third largest net contributor to these funds," says Andrew Lewer, who is the European Conservative spokesman on Regional Development.

From time-to-time there are suggestions for policy ideas in the EU that come from the pro-EU Left that are so utterly ridiculous and yet insidious you cannot simply look on agog, something must be said.  The idea of teaching the EU in schools was one idea that got short shrift from me in this 3-minute video, also transcribed below.

East Midlands MEP: Give local government more say in EU funding decisions

Andrew Lewer MBE MEP - Conservative spokesman in the European Parliament on Regional Development - has called for greater local-decision making in the delivery of EU funds.

Andrew attended a University of Derby seminar on Academic Areas of Hospitality, Resorts and Spa Management in the historic Devonshire Dome, Buxton, which is part of the university. Derby University is a UK leader in this field of hospitality and spa resort management degree courses and Andrew, as a govenor of the university, was delighted to attend the event and listen to the speakers.
